Participatory modelling

In participatory modeling, a work group jointly develops a representation of reality. This model represents anything that is relevant to the group at that moment for example their own situation as a team, the waste water issues of a certain geographical area or the opinions of other stakeholders regarding a group project. Thus, depending on the issue, different model types are used: stakeholder visualizations, geographical maps, systemic representations etc.

This method allow even a diverse group of participants to co-construct a common representation of reality or at least map where are different points of view on the situation. Participatory modeling is therefore often used early on in longer processes, serves as a diagnostic tool and allows creating a shared basis for later focusing on joint objectives and actions.
