New Research Projects

Lisode has recently begun to coordinate the « InterSAGE » project. The project – sponsored by the French Ministry of the Environment – explores new ways of governance across related river catchments, aquifers and coastal areas and is called:

"Towards integrated water management in the West Hérault : Management tools and new forms of governance"

The participatory kick-off meeting (December 2009) allowed the various project partners (research institutes, water managers as well as water and nature administrators across geographical and institutional scales) to discuss project objectives, express their expectations and clarify their preferred levels of involvement in the project.

Sponsored by the Virtual University for the Environment and Sustainable Development, Lisode also coordinates the project

"Interactive teaching for the participatory management of natural resources and land use planning"

The project has been built in partnership with the Cirad, the University Montpellier 3, and the interdisciplinary Métafort Research Team (Clermont-Ferrand). It addresses the issue of how university education for natural resource management can become more interactive. More specifically, the project will develop and make available virtual (on-line) tools (exercises, case studies, role games) to help university professors conduct their teachings in more interactive ways.

Stakeholder involvement and public participation for the label "Sustainable Urban Planning"

The authority (Conseil Général) of the Gard départment is constructing a label “Sustainable Urbain Planning”. Lisode is involved in this project in order to draw up the stakeholder involvement and public participation requirements for obtaining this label. In six pilot project towns of the Gard, Lisode accompanies the design and implementation of participation processes as well as their evaluation. The results of these pilot projects will inform the participation requirements that a town of the Gard needs to meet in the future in order to obtain the label « Sustainable Urban Planning ».

Science

Lisode is currently coordinating a special issue of the online journal Ecology and Society. The topic is the implementation of participatory water management. One paper is already online.

Training on citizen involvement

In November 2009 Lisode organized training sessions for the Gard department authority on how to best involve citizens in governance projects. This training was provided to administrators, elected officials as well as citizens and has contributed to the drawing up of “Participation Charta” for the Gard (download )
